Deciding on a list of best wines is no easy task. Good wines are everywhere around and can be paired with excellent food. Whether you drink a glass of wine every so often or you have a collection of wine bottles in your cellar, you know that what makes a good wine a fine wine is your mood. And spring mood is the best mood to enjoy life with a fine wine. Here’s a list of the best spring wines of 2009 (harvest year is mentioned in parenthesis): > Beringer Stone Cellars Zifandel (2005) – California, USA Beringer Stone Cellars Zifandel is a great, red wine with attitude coming from Napa Valley, the Mecca of Californian wine; tender black ripe fruit flavours that leave the mouth full of blackberries, sweet spice, and a pepper taste. This Californian wine treasure is an intense wine with liquorice notes, distinctive raisin fruit and velvety character that can pair with BBQ ribs, steaks, hotdogs and hamburgers; ideal to bring on the barbecue season. > D’Angelo Sacravite Aglianico (2006) – Italy Southern Italy produces wines for centuries, but it’s only recently that the region has managed to get its act together and show its spirit to the rest of the world. Among a great variety of grapes, Aglianico grows in Basilicata and encompasses all the aromas and intensity of flavour of the more renowned northern Italian grapes Nebbiolo and Sangiovese. D’Angelo Sacravite Aglianico is a strong, peppery wine with a dark fruit palate, chocolate plum, velvety palate and a lively spicy finish. It pairs deliciously with gorgonzola cheese. > Fumées Blanches Pinot Noir (2007) – France The red grape of Burgundy comes with a silky perfume, a strawberry aroma in the classic Pinot Noir flavour. Fumées Blanches Pinot Noir from Vin de Pays d’Oc pairs pleasingly with a classic plate of melon & Parma ham, cold roast beef, a platter of charcuterie and salami and absolutely with crispy duck pancakes. > Herederos Lurton Rosado (2007/2008) – Spain Castilla Y Leon in Spain is a famous wine region encompassing the fine wine areas of Rioja and Ribera del Duero, where the variety of Tinta de Toro grape grows. The vivid deep pink colour of Herederos Lurton Rosado, bottled under the Spanish sunshine is an explosion of strawberry & raspberry with an added flavour of mandarin and spicy pepper. Crispy and fresh like a white, yet with a powerful structure, but more refreshing than a red wine, Herederos Lurton Rosado is a ravishing Rosé wine, perfectly versatile, that can pair with turkey, chicken with peppers, or rice with chickpeas. > Los Arbolitos Sauvignon Blanc (2008) – Chile The Central Valley is the inspirational region of Chilean wine. Resembling a lot in style & flavour profile to French Sancerre & Pouilly Fumé, Los Arbolitos Sauvignon Blanc mingles citrus and tropical fruits in full harmony with peaches and nectarines delivering a splendid dry and fruit palate. Los Arbolitos pairs delightfully with goat cheese, salad of soft herbs, fish dishes, artichoke risotto or the classic fish & chips. All you have to do is to put on your best mood and enjoy any of these fine wines with good food, good company and good weather. Happy drinking! Happy Spring!

Being a strong advocate of simplicity in life, I love my family, my partner and all the people that have stood by me with or without knowing. And I hope that someday, human nature will cease to be greedy and demanding realizing that the more we have the more we want and the more we satisfy our needs the more needs we create. And this is so needless after all.
